I was trying to make a felted head to mount. there is a girl on etsy who makes these cute creatures out of felt and mounts them. Didn't really turn out, I made it too big so it turned into a puppet. It was hard to go from 2-d to 3-d but i think i got it. I will give it another go. I think I will give this to sylvie, it was her birthday on tuesday. I am not sure what it is, could be a deer or a rabbit.

Sunday was Jim and my 2nd anniversary. We spent the morning biking up to Saint Johns(I played what we should do in the morning and Jim planned the rest of the day), which is a 7 mile bike ride, and had tea and coffee and this little place called Little Red Bike. We sat for awhile and played cribbage. than we walked over the Saint johns bridge than road bake home. It was about a 20 mile bike ride. we stayed at home for awhile, enough time to cool off and shower and from there we walked to the art museum and say some new exhibits and than Jim took me out for dinner at Higgens. I had a juicey steak and Jim had lamb shank. It was a really nice day and to document it I made a shadow box of our day. I plan to make one every year.

I did some baking last week. The cherry pie was delish. And I had a go with making poptarts. not such a go go. I think next time i will make them bigger. the lemon zest was yummy, need to get a better grater.

Here some creepy sculpey work. don't ask me what it means...usually the case is something doesn't go as planned and I do a little creative problem solving. sorry, not that creepy. this was a weird salt shaker I bought at goodwill. I was originally going to put the antler heart in there and use the guy for some other project put after I baked the sculpey it didn't fit. badda bing badda boom there you have it, " Eichelhut"( german for acorn hat) I like using german titles. Its a little educational and props to my heritage.

today was a productive day. We got back form L.A. yesterday. I was sunburned and tired. I definitely got sun poisoning and was relieved when I found out I didn't have to work. I had already got 12 hours of sleep so I've been wanting to make these peanut butter cookies that we had at the coffee shop. than i worked on some stuff and made man beaar. I want to make a whole line of them. this one has a disgusting look on his face like..hey baby, I'll be your teddy bear.

than we walked to the coffee shop and played rummy and than went to the grocery store, we bought stuff to make lemon butter chicken with pasta. It was good but to buttery and I have a stomach ache now. erg. Tomorrow work, erg. got to make some money.

today is going to be a longgggg day. I just want to get it over with. I have three houses. Two are smaller apartments but still. I usually clean one, sometimes two a day. but I have a secret weapon...oat meal...with walnuts, brown sugar and milk, nummy. earl grey tea with milk and honey. I must say I am a milk junky. It will be nice when I get to come home.

We are both so much a like. one one of us gets sad the other one does too and we are both quite about it and have a hard time talking. i think I've gotten better over the years but its still hard. I said we don't fight we just get really sad and not about anything the other has done just stress from work or just because. we have to stop that, we waste whole days being sad sacks and its so depressing. So I think we need to get out of the house and reflect than come to each other and just get it out so it isn't lingering above our heads in this small apartment.

I'm fond of my fondant cupcake

So I've been talking about making a cake with fondant so I thought I'd start out small and work my way up in size. My friend's birthday is this sunday. I made her the little pouch with the unicorn doughnut. I figured I'd keep the theme and sneak in some practice and here you have it my first fondant cupcake. making the fondant was fun but more messy than anything else. I got the recipe from this website. I guess there are a couple of ways to do it. I guess fondant doesn't really taste that great so I used the marshmallow recipe. You basically melt marshmallows and add 2lb of powdered sugar and you use a lot of crisco to keep the marshmallow mixture from sticking to you and everything. I'm not sure if I got the right consistency cuz it wasn't as easy to sculpt things I kept having to put it in the freezer to harden it but the heat from my hands made it too soft to sculpt. I guess I am just use to sculpey. but all and all I think it turned out pretty good being my first time making it and using it. I hope she likes it. now for the big cakes....

Almost Two Years

So Jim and I have our two year anniversary coming up and wanted to do something special. last year I put together a shadow box of the things we did on that day. I will most likely make another one and will in the future. It will be crazy If I made one for every year we are together. My goal is 50. So I was thinking this year of making an awesome cake. I've been watching Ace of Cakes on the food network channel and really want to try making a cake with fondant... the shape of a real heart with a fork and spoon crossing on top. its significant. before I met jim a got a fork and spoon tattoo kris crossing on my shoulder. It signified the man and the woman and in away I was looking for my fork and i found it when I met jim. So its been an ongoing theme. the first monthwe were going out I made him a necklace with a spoon on it and i had one with a fork. he wore it until it broke. than for our one year anniversary I got us rings made out of spoon handles. i put them in a small heart shapes box with a sculpey heart I made with the crossing spoon and fork on top. You can see the box in the picture. so I wanted to do the same thing but with a cake. Its in june so I will have time to practice with smaller projects. My friend has a birthday coming up and wanted to make her one. she loves plants and gardening so it will be that theme. I'll post later how that goes.

Old Projects

I have all of my old art hanging up on our walls and its not much. When I think about it I really don't have that big of a body of work. I never went to art school but I do miss my art teachers from high school. I miss having assignments. I think they actually help and motivate me. Thats why i like the pieces I did of my grandma. There from the same image but in different mediums. She gave me some of her hair along time ago and used it in the sculpture. I need to do a project like this again. I've just been focused on selling and making of my wallops and I think that I need to take a break and just do this and work on getting a body of work together.

New Wallop Ideas

I tried something new with the wallops. I've been having fun with cute little felt creatures with eyeballs so I thought I'd try combining the two. I am pretty happy with the results. The only thing I am not liking on the one is the wallpaper and the edges and the elastic is too tight. The wallpaper was given to me by a friend. I thought the whole thing was vinyl but just the front, so it still tares but I think by sewing it with the other wallpaper will reinforce it. I didn't put edging on this one and used a zig zag stitch which I am now regretting but I do have labels now whitch makes them look more together. So I will keep at it.

new projects

I tried out making stuffed animals. its kind a hard. I'm not really good at what fabrics to use, some are too bulky but it was fun and I am going to try making more. I also made a little change purse. so all in all it was a good, productive day.
